After graduating from Highschool she attended Garners Beauty (cosmetology) school where she earned her certificate of cosmetology and became a beautician in Hartsville S.C. in 1949.
In 1951 Thelma met Rudolph Jones on a train while she traveled to Brooklyn New York to visit family, he was headed to a military base. After a year and a half of correspondence, they met again in 1953 upon his return from Korea at which time he asked her for her hand in marriage. Shortly after on the 4th of August they were wed.
In 1963 after several years of moving from state to state because of the military life they settled down in Tacoma Washington where they raised their 4 children Mary, Phyllis who preceded her mom in death, Richard and Tony.
Thelma also had a long work career at St Joseph Hospital where she worked in the environmental services department. Followed by several years of working for Catholic community services providing home health care for those in need. Thelma was known as Superwoman to her children, as she worked endlessly to ensure that everyone around her was happy safe and fed. To know Thelma was to love her.
