Stephen Williams Obituary

Stephen Williams
April 3, 1942 - November 15, 2021
Lakewood, Washington - Stephen Nicholas Williams, born April 3, 1942, in Santa Paula, California, passed away at Tacoma General Hospital on November 15, 2021. Steve was raised in Santa Paula. He was a standout athlete at Santa Paula High School and worked in the oil fields and on the family farm, tending to the lemon and orange orchards. In 1960 he earned an opportunity to play football for the University of Washington Huskies. He forged lifelong relationships at UW as a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. After serving in the U.S. Army, Steve moved to Lakewood and began his career in the insurance industry, working for several companies and then starting his own business. In 1968 he met Barbara Daly on a blind date. After a very short courtship they married on October 18, 1968. She was the love of his life. His commitment to her never wavered. They found a home in the Lakeside Club on American Lake and settled in with the intent to raise a family. Leslie was born in 1970 and David in 1972. The Lakeside Club was not only an idyllic setting to raise children, but a place that Steve dedicated much of his time. He served on the board for decades. Steve and Barb were Husky Football season ticket holders for over 30 years. They enjoyed vacationing in Maui and Black Butte Ranch. He loved to golf, read, keep up on all the news and gossip and he NEVER met a stranger. He started every day with various coffee clubs over the years. It was his purpose to get up. He talked to everyone and genuinely loved people. He was the best husband, father, and grandfather anyone could ask for. He and Barb were a great match. They tag teamed everything, set goals, and made them come to life. They agreed their primary commitment, aside from each other was to raise a good family. They supported their children every step of the way. Steve coached soccer and softball, attended every play, concert, match or game. He always said he'd be their biggest fan and he was. Steve fought through a number of health issues over the last 15 years. His determination and strength, while maintaining a positive attitude, was nothing short of amazing. Several of his providers referred to him as "The Miracle Man". He was a strong, kind, genuine man. He will be sorely missed but forever remembered. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Leslie Alan Williams and mother, Elizabeth Williams. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara, daughter Leslie, son David, granddaughter Alyssa and brother Donald (Miriam) along with a large extended family of in laws, nieces, and nephews. He loved them all, even the Cougs.
At Steve's request there will be no formal services.
