It is with a heavy heart that the family of Sarah (Kita) Ellen Hindman announce her passing at the age of seventy-nine. She went peacefully at home in Spanaway WA, on August 25, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. She leaves behind her children, Karen (Mike) and Doug (Eleza), her grandchildren Robby (Dani) and Danny (Christmas), her great grandchildren Claire and Addi, and sisters Lydia (Mark) and Linda (Dave).
Sarah was born in Minnesota to Donald and Leonore Loyola Howey. Being in a military family, she lived in Alabama, California, Puerto Rico and Washington. She lost a brother (Pat) in childhood but gained two younger sisters who helped fill the void.
Sarah was a hairdresser for fifty years owning and operating her own salon. She truly enjoyed her profession and many of her clients became lifelong friends.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck. Together they owned and raced horses at Long Acres, creating some of her favorite memories. Sarah led an active life. She was a competitive roller skater in adulthood and learned to ski when she was forty years old. Family was important to her, and she took great pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren. The addition of two great granddaughters brought much joy to her in later years.
The family would like to thank Franciscan Hospice for their extraordinary care and comfort. A very special note of appreciation to Eleza Pagan for the love, care and companionship she gave ‘Mama Kita’ during her last journey in this life.
A celebration of life will take place Thursday September 14 at 11am (10am for the viewing) at Weeks Dryer Mortuary in Tacoma, WA.
