George Southern, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away on April 5, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on April 12, 1952, in Huntington, Indiana, Robert made Puyallup, Washington his home for 68 years, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Robert's life was one of dedication and hard work. For a decade, he lent his skilled hand as a painter for Tacoma Boat, where his craftsmanship and attention to detail were evident in every stroke. Following his passion for helping others, he transitioned into a career as a Mortgage Loan Officer at Southern Mortgage, where he served the community for 20 years with integrity and professionalism.
A proud member of the Painters Union (IUPAT), Robert also proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, embodying the values of honor, courage, and commitment throughout his life.
Beyond his professional achievements, Robert found joy in life's simple pleasures. He cherished moments spent outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, or camping, finding solace and tranquility in nature's embrace. An adept card player, he enjoyed the thrill of a good poker game and the camaraderie it brought. His adventurous spirit led him to embark on countless cruises, exploring the world and creating cherished memories with loved ones along the way.
Robert's legacy lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his ex-wife Sonia L. Alaniz, son Robert G. Southern Jr. (Christine), and daughter, Dena L. Smale (Scott). He leaves behind cherished memories for his brother Ronald Southern, sisters Diane McNiver, Cheryle VanderWall, and Karen Southern, as well as his adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded by his loving father Harry R. Southern, mother Lorraine E. Southern, and brother Richard A. Southern.
In honoring Robert's life, a funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 11:30 am at Weeks’ Dryer Mortuary in Tacoma, Washington. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
