Robert Paul Going, or Bob, to those who knew him, was born in 1930 in Grant, Nebraska to August and Helen Going. The third of seven children, Bob spent his formative years in Nashville, Oregon. After graduating from Eddyville High School, class of 1948, Bob joined the Navy. Serving on the USS Bryce Canyon, Bob spent time in Guam and Japan during the Korean War. Knowing that the Navy was not a career he wished to pursue, Bob was honorably discharged in 1952. He credited the newly instituted GI Bill for his enrolling at Oregon State University in the fall of 1954. He graduated from Oregon State University in 1958 with a degree in Math and a job in the brand-new field of Computer Engineering. While a student at OSU, he courted and married his wife, Anita. He remained “the luckiest man alive” for 67 years. Together they raised three daughters, moving around the country with Boeing and the Control Data Corporation, before settling in Puyallup, Washington in 1977. Bob lived a long and vibrant life. He passed away peacefully at home at the age of 93, surrounded by loved ones. He leaves behind his beloved wife, his three daughters, sons-in-law and three grandchildren, three surviving siblings and the many people he touched along the way.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to any charity focusing on disaster relief and refugees.
