(Patrick) McGowan Obituary

(Patrick) Theodore McGowan, age 87, died peacefully on January 22, 2021 at home in Tacoma, WA with his family at his bedside.  He was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Edward and Tula Cantrell McGowan.  He was the youngest of four brothers.  Born in Princeton, Kentucky on July 4, 1933. Theodore was as patriotic as his birthdate.  He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served for 29 years. He traveled the world and was deeply moved when he visited Jerusalem during his early military career. He proudly retired at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.  After the military, Theodore worked in the U.S. Postal Service for 15 years in the Milton-Fife, WA post office. He enjoyed giving tours to schoolchildren and teaching them how to use the post office. He retired from the Evergreen post office in Tacoma, WA in 1998.  While working in the post office, Theodore attended evening classes and graduated from The Evergreen State College with a Bachelor's Degree in 1986.  A devout Christian, Theodore was a member of the Church of Christ, Iglesia Ni Cristo for 50 years. He built the church steeple and served as a finance officer in the Tacoma Locale of Iglesia Ni Cristo.  Theodore loved nature and farming. You could always find him out walking in the woods, around the flight line on McChord AFB, or in the neighborhood. He loved nature and would always stop to marvel at the beauty of God's work during his walks or while driving around in his baby blue Volkswagen Bug.  He was a great example of perseverance to his daughters throughout his life. Anyone that came in contact with him knew he was an honest, hardworking, and direct man.

Theodore is survived by his wife Rosa Patino McGowan his daughters: Leonida McGowan, Michelle McGowan, and Eva McGowan his nephew: Troy McGowan (Stacy), cousin: Willis Marshall Johnson (Juanita) his extended family in Kentucky, Indiana, California, Arizona, Canada, Hawaii, Australia the Philippines, his church family, and friends.
