John Langlow Obituary

John Lorimer Langlow passed away peacefully while in hospice care on July 19, 2020, in Tacoma, Washington, at the age of 87.

John is survived by his wife Johanna; 2 sisters, Amy Cox, Tulalip, WA, Janet Turnbull (husband Lee) Tacoma; son James Langlow, (Sandra), Oak Harbor, Washington; daughter Donna Hogeberg (Doug) Lakebay, Washington and son Ronald Langlow, Tacoma, Washington; 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

John was born on January 20, 1933, in Tacoma, to Lorimer and Ruth Langlow. He graduated from Lincoln Park High School, Tacoma, in 1951. He attended College of Puget Sound in Tacoma before joining the Navy. He spent much of his time stationed at Whiting Field in Milton, Florida, which is where he met and married Johanna, his wife of 66 years, in 1954. John and Johanna returned to Tacoma where he joined his father in the family business, Langlow Printers.

John was an accomplished musician and organist and could be found at the organ bench nearly every Sunday, from the time he was in High School until he retired in December 2019, nearly 70 years. He served many congregations in the Tacoma / Puget Sound area. He spent many years at Luther Memorial, Bethel Lutheran and St. John's Lutheran in Tacoma. He was honored to complete his music ministry at Dupont Community Presbyterian Church where he was warmly welcomed by many friends.

John was a very dedicated member of Lincoln Park Lodge #80 and Tyler Lodge, F&AM of Washington. He was not only known for his expertise at the organ, he was also an accomplished orator and was called on frequently to assist with Masonic ceremonial duties. He was a Past Master of his lodge and Past Grand Organist of the Grand Lodge of Washington. He was an active and dedicated member of the Cedar Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and often volunteered his organ playing at many other chapters, lodges, and other organizations.  He was appointed Grand Representative of Alabama in Washington, OES in 2014. Over the years John was also active with Masonic youth groups, served on advisory boards and as Rainbow Dad for Cedar Assembly #28 in Tacoma.

A graveside memorial service is privately scheduled for family where John will be interred at Tacoma Cemetery.   Pastor Dan MacDonald will officiate the ceremony.
