John Anthony Ball, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend entered into eternal rest, with his loving family around him at Tacoma General after battling pneumonia. He was 82 years old.
John was born in Tacoma and was a life-long resident of the city. He was a 1958 graduate of Stadium High School, a Navy veteran and an active member of the Tacoma Outboard Association and AMVETS Post #1. He met his bride, Dora, while stationed in San Jose, CA, and they were married for over 62 years. In 1965, John began working at Tacoma Public Utilities as a Communications Technician. He retired in 2001 after keeping the lines of communication open at TPU and beyond for over 36 years.
John enjoyed birdwatching, mole hunting, and playing cards at Key Peninsula Senior Society and at the AMVETS where he was tickled to top the Trivia leader board. He was an avid fisherman, outstanding handyman and legendary story teller. He would never hesitate to drop everything to assist those who asked for help. And he always had time to sit and talk, with a cold beer in hand and one to share.
John is survived by his loving wife Dora, daughters, Jackie (Nick) Stagliano, Cher (John) Odell, and Dee Langberg, and son, Jeff Ball, along with six grandchildren, Evan (Amanda) Stagliano, Taylor Stagliano, Eric Stagliano, Ryan Stagliano, Michael Odell and Sean Ball. All are excellent game and card players, forever competing with John for the win.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Monty and Anna Ball, his sisters, Barbara Laun and Jeanette Coleman, and grandsons, Scott Odell and Aaron Stagliano.
John will be interred at Tahoma National Cemetery with full military honors on December 30, 2022.
