Harold Leroy Merz

Harold Leroy Merz, lovingly called Baldy, was a hard worker who loved hard working things.  Born in Yelm, Washington on June 7, 1937 to William and Esther Merz, Baldy was a country boy from the start.  He grew up among farm and field in the Pacific Northwest and became a man who gave back to it.  A lover of cars, tractors, and trucks, if he could tool around with it and run it hard, he was in love.  He raised beef cows, knew what toll the labor of haying took on a man, and every day he knew himself to be blessed with good work ahead of him.  Baldy worked the land, tended to his ducks and bunnies, raised healthy cows, and found time to have lunch with his son Glenn every Sunday.  Like he carved his own piece of paradise out of the land, he also carved out time for friends and family.  He loved to try his luck at the casino, give his all helping others, and sharing his heart with those dearest to him.  An honest, compassionate, and dedicated hard man, he will be well and truly missed.

On July 24, 2021, Baldy went to be reunited in Heaven with his wife Janice; son Jerry Merz; and grandsons Jerry and William Merz. 

Baldy is continuously loved by his son Glenn Merz (Denise); granddaughter Jessica Merz; step-grandchildren Lauren Arias and Cameron Berndson; and great-granddaughter Mia Lombardo.

A public visitation and memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at 12:00 pm at Weeks’ Dryer Mortuary in Tacoma, Washington.  A graveside service will immediately follow at 2:30 pm at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in Spanaway, Washington.
