Surrounded by loved ones, Gloria Arosemena Goins passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, August 26 th, returning to our Lord and into the heavenly arms of her husband Al, who awaited her.
Born in Managua, Nicaragua in 1932, Gloria was a loving wife to her beloved husband of 51 years, the late Albert (Al) Goins, and was the matriarch of their children; Joseph Goins, Nicholas Goins, Maria Hilger, Patricia Porter, Michele Goins and James Goins, their spouses, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, the most recent of which she was blessed to have held in her arms just days prior to her passing. She is also survived by her brother Carlos Arosemena.L and her sister-in-law Margaret Parsons.
Gloria earned her Nursing Degree at Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Spokane, Washington. It was at a school dance that she met her future husband Al, who was proudly serving in the United States Air Force. Even after they married, and as a mother raising her growing family, Gloria remained true to her calling, serving as an operating room nurse at hospitals through Al’s various duty stations. With McChord AFB in Tacoma as Al’s final assignment, Gloria began serving at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital, eventually becoming the Head Surgical Nurse of the Cardiac Catheterization Unit, maintaining that role until her retirement.
In retirement, Gloria and Al easily shifted into a colorful life of travel and exploration, which saw the two of them journey throughout the world, visiting with family, friends and loved ones. Gloria’s grandchildren, Christopher Goins, Nicole Mack, Ian Hilger, Caleb Hilger, Todd Porter, Payton Porter and Vincent Goins, along with six great-grandchildren, were a wellspring of pride and joy to their beloved "Mimi" in her later years.
Gloria’s lifelong passions included sewing, fishing (but only with Al), knitting, and the loving care of the gardens at her long-time home. She was a dedicated parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Heaven, both in attendance and in the volunteering of her time and talents to various ministries and pastoral staff.
A Rosary Service at 10:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, will be held on Saturday, October 23rd, 2021, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Parish in Parkland, WA.
