Georgia Gomez Obituary

Georgia Sassy "Turtle Girl" Gomez, daughter of Miranda (Miller) Gomez and Jhonathan Gomez, passed away peacefully at home in Tacoma, Washington on June 20th, 2022. Georgia, also known as “Turtle Girl,” was nine years old. She loved music and cuddling and had a wonderful laugh. A member of the Ohlone/Costanoan Esselen Nation of the Greater Monterey Area through her mother, and Venezuelan through her father, Georgia was known and loved by many. She was born with a rare genetic disorder, Adenylosuccinate Lyase Deficiency (ADSL), about which little is known. Georgia was a brave, valiant little person who came into a hard world with a lot of burdens, but she knew how to laugh and love anyway. She is survived by her parents and her little brother, Jhonathan (four), as well as her grandmothers Deborah Miranda (Margo Solod) and Janet Castillo, grandfather Daniel H. Miller (Janna), uncles Daniel Conner (Lauren), Ben Miller (Diane), Nathan Miller (Chie), Arturo Castillo and Abraham Castillo, aunts Andreina Gomez Castillo and Maria Paez, and many cousins. Services were held on June 30th at New Tacoma Cemetery on Chambers Creek Road West, on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish people. The family expresses deep gratitude for all the support that allowed them to honor Georgia’s spirit in the best possible way. In Esselen, there is no word for goodbye. We say, “Micha ene hikpalala,” which means, “I’ll see you.”
