Dorothy Bernice Jensen, 96, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother, passed away of natural causes on Christmas Eve 2020. Born March 19, 1924 on the family homestead in Saunders Kansas was just the beginning of her life adventures. Meeting the love of her life Royal Jensen--during WWII in a Pueblo bus station, she stayed in touch with him via letters and married on June 14, 1943. After marrying, they headed West to Royal’s home state of Washington and settled in the Puyallup Valley. After the treeless plains of the mid-west she fell in love with the mountains, the large forests, the scenic rivers, and the abundance of water. She never regretted moving to the Evergreen State.
Dorothy’s goal of reaching 100 was unexpectedly cut short when her only kidney failed. Twenty years ago she surprisingly discovered she was born with only one. Her legacy for loving life and family will continue for many generations. Known for her kindness to others and an incredible generous heart, no one was a stranger and there was always room for one more at the dinner table. Throughout her adult life, some of her favorite pastimes included creative arts and crafts projects, letter writing, quilting and crocheting. All family members (near & far) and friends (old & new) benefited from her passion of giving---each and every one receiving a weekly/monthly letter, a card for every Holiday, Birthday and/or Anniversary and always at Christmas a gift of crocheted dish cloths and dollies. Each of her children, family members and friends at their high school graduation received an amazing hand tied, wool batted quilt made of pure love.
As a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother always ready to share a proud story about her six (6) children, their children, and their grandchildren. She was quick to tell anyone who would listen that she had seven (7) grandchildren, eight (8) great-grandchildren, and six (6) great-great grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her children, Roy Jensen, Bob Jensen (Martha), Dick Jensen (Mary), John Jensen (Kathy), Lona Jensen, Vinnie Witkowski (John) and her many grandchildren. .
