Colonel Larry Deccio was born on 17 March 1936 in Walla Walla, WA to Joseph V. Deccio and Antoinette M. Raguso. He passed away in Tacoma, WA on January 5, 2023, at the age of 86.
At age 17, Larry joined the Washington Army National Guard and proudly served his country for 38 years, with 34 years in a full time status. He was a graduate of Infantry Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, GA, and the United States Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. On 24 My 1991, Col Deccio was inducted into the Fort Benning OCS Hall of Fame. Throughout his service he held full time positions in several units and the headquarters of the Washington Army National Guard at Camp Murray, WA. He retired on 15 April 1991 as the Chief of Staff, Washington Army National Guard. Col Deccio was preceded in death by his three brothers, Frank, Ernie and Donald, all from Walla Walla, WA.
He is survived by two sons, Tim, and Ted and one daughter Teresa. Also surviving are three granddaughters, Angela, Laurie, and Sarah; one grandson, Jonathan; two great grandsons, and two great granddaughters. Larry will be interned at Tahoma National Cemetery in a private service.
