Lorraine Elsie (Ehlers) Southern was born on September 15th, 1932, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Grover H and Mildred L (Smith) Ehlers. She was raised in South Dakota and then moved to Minnesota where she met Harry R. Southern and was married on September 21st, 1948, in Brainerd, MN.
Lorraine was a stay-at-home mom to their six children and later a dietary cook at the Tacoma Lutheran Home in Puyallup, WA and McGee's Guest Home for Men in Spanaway, WA. Lorraine loved to play bingo and travel to Reno with Harry before he passed. She loved going on cruises, playing slots at casinos and spending time with her family. Lorraine, 91, passed away Friday, March 8th, 2024, surrounded by family at home in Spanaway, WA.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Harry R. Southern, and son Richard Southern. She is survived by her children: Robert, Ronald, Diane McNiven, Cheryl VanDerWall, and Karen, 17 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren. Lorraine was a loving mother and the best grandmother. She will be missed by all.
A funeral service is set for 12PM on March 22nd at Weeks Dryer Mortuary, 220 134th Street South in Tacoma, Wa. Visitation before and after service.
