John Edward Sauer

John E. Sauer passed away peacefully with family by his side early Tuesday morning, March 26, 2024 in Port Orchard, Washington. John was born in Yakima to Elizabeth and Clarence Sauer in 1938.

John graduated from Highland High School, Cowiche, Washington in 1956 and attended Yakima Valley Junior College for two years. He later went back to earn an Associates Degree from Wenatchee Valley Community College in the late 70’s. John worked in sales for most of his career.

John married Joanne (Wilcox) Heaney in 1976. They resided in Wenatchee and, after Joanne retired, spent their winters in Yuma, Arizona until Joanne’s passing in 2008. In 2019 John moved to Port Orchard to be closer to his daughter. He enjoyed volunteering for the Special Olympics and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

John is survived by his daughters, Theresa Althauser (Don), and Kathleen Sauer; step-children, Sherri Roe (Pat), Michael Armstrong, and Paula Smith, 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Mary Brimmer and Judy Latimer. He was preceded in death by his wife Joanne, son Joseph, parents Elizabeth and Clarence, and brother, Dave.

Memorial services for John will be held on May 10, 2024, 12:00 pm at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wenatchee, WA. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider a donation to Special Olympics in John’s name.
